Why The Beacon and what has this got to do with Wantage?
The Beacon has been chosen to reflect the beacons that surround Wantage and was the preferred option from customer research. A beacon is positive, illuminating and welcoming and is a gathering place for the local community. Beacons are still used in celebrations to connect communities across the district and country.
Why should I be interested in the facility?
Our aim is to provide a first class venue with a welcoming, friendly and efficient service. As one of the largest venues in the area, we host a wide range of activities to suit people of all ages and with different tastes and interests, whether you want to take part in a dance or exercise class, watch a band, take your children to the theatre or go to the movies!
As well as a programme of activities and events, we offer children’s party packages, wedding receptions and delegate packages for business, or you can host your own event or celebration.

What's included in the hire cost?

What are the catering options?
Whether it’s a cuppa in the coffee shop, popcorn at the cinema or a five course Wedding Breakfast we have it covered. We have catering packages for every type of event, and the coffee shop and bar stock a range of local, fresh and seasonal produce at great value for money.
I am not booking a room or attending an event, can I still use your coffee shop?
Yes, we offer a selection of delicious cakes and treats, along with a choice of coffees, teas and cold drinks. We are open for anyone to pop in between 10am and 7pm Monday to Friday and 9am -2pm on Saturdays (subject to events).
What technology do you have for shows / meetings?
At The Beacon we have a fully functioning performance space featuring an excellent sound and lighting provision, supported by local theatre technicians, JT Stage Productions. The meeting rooms have all the facilities you would expect from a modern conference venue, including digital projectors and wi-fi. Why do you only show films on one weekend a month?
As the cinema occupies the main hall, The Ridgeway, scheduling the cinema screenings is a balance with hosting other events, including those run by external groups who have hired the space. We have now purchased our own equipment and so this does allow us more flexibility as to when we can show movies, so watch out for additional dates and special seasonal screenings!
Why do you only show films after they've been out at Cineworld?
Due to the nature of film distribution, we are unable to obtain a licence whilst the films are being screened under primary release. However, we work very hard to ensure we get the latest films available and on occasion it may be possible to screen films before the DVD or general release.
When will you announce the next set of films?
Due to the way films are distributed, we do not always know the release date until a few weeks before, however, we are always working on the next set of films and announce them as soon as we know on our Events page.
What can I expect from film screenings?
Above all, you can expect to have a fantastic time! Our aim is for the cinema to have a great atmosphere and for you to have a relaxing time. Part of this is having an interval in the movie and to have popcorn and ice cream available. The bar is open on Friday evenings and the coffee shop is open on Saturday mornings.
Can I suggest a film to show in the future?
Of course! We are always interested in what our customers would like to see and welcome suggestions.
